Olney Plans National Night Out at Griffin Park

Olney residents will have an opportunity to meet local police officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and other first responders during National Night Out on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Olney Police Chief Bryan Barrett announced the event during the Sept. 14 City Council meeting. The community gathering will begin at 6 p.m. at Tom Griffin Park.

Chief Barrett described the event as a community picnic with a special focus on police, fire, EMS and other emergency personnel. Organizers hope to involve as many local residents and public-safety agencies as possible.

The department also is seeking sponsors to help provide hot dogs and other refreshments.

National Night Out events are designed to strengthen relationships between residents and the people who protect their communities. In Olney, the informal setting will allow families to visit with first responders outside the pressure of an emergency call, and to climb around on their emergency vehicles.
