Olney PD arrested suspect for kidnapping and other charges

Olney’s Chief of Police, Dan Birbeck, released information regarding a kidnapping in progress in the parking lot at a local business Oct. 22. The vehicle driver was identified as Zachery Trafford W/M 10/12/99 of Ft. Worth. Olney Police Dept. (OPD) received a call that the victim was being held against her will by her boyfriend, driving a black Mitsubishi heading east on Hwy 114.

“Officers were advised via radio that the vehicle was last seen passing a church east of town traveling east on Hwy 114,” Birbeck stated. “Olney officers caught up with on Hwy 281 at Rumage Road in Jack County, and the female exited the vehicle and ran to the responding officers.”

Assisting OPD with the search included the Young County Sheriff ’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Jack County Sheriff ’s Office.

“Once stopped, the vehicle was searched, and a small amount of marijuana was located in the driver’s door. Trafford was arrested in Jack County for the possession of marijuana and transported to the Jack County Jail. Warrants for kidnapping and interference with an emergency call were obtained in Young County later that same day,” Birbeck stated.
