Olney man arrested on child sex charge

An Olney man was arrested June 11 on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child following a police investigation into an outcry by the 14-year-old victim, Chief Dan Birbeck said.

Seth Cody Wakefield, 32, has been detained in Young County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond since his arrest, according to jail records. Police launched an investigation, then served arrest and search warrants at Wakefield’s home after receiving information about the alleged assault, Chief Birbeck said.

A grand jury will consider the charges against Wakefield at a later date. The suspect no longer has access to the victim, Birbeck said.
