Olney ISD School Board Update

Olney ISD School Board held it’s meeting on Oct. 26. Visitors present were Dan Birbeck, City of Olney’s Chief of Police and Officer Dustin Hudson.

President Jake Bailey called the regular meeting of the Olney Independent School District’s Board of Trustees to order at 6:00 p.m. The meeting has been duly called, and a notice of this meeting has been posted in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code Chapter 551, and that a quorum of board members was present.

Trustee Barrington provided an opening prayer. The board reviewed the minutes from the Sept. 28 meeting. Kyle Hinson motioned to approve the Sept. 28 board minutes as presented; seconded by Kenley Lane. Motion Carried 6-0.

The board reviewed the Sept. 2020 schedule of bank & investments report, cash receipts and deposits report, check register report, budget summary report and the utilities summary report. Motion by Kyle Hinson and seconded by Len Bernhardt. Motion to approve all the financial and utilities reports as presented. Motion carried 6-0.

Items for information & discussion were as followed, Dr. Roach reviewed enrollment and attendance. Olney Elementary School reported Sept. 30 enrollment of 328; Olney Junior High School reported enrollment of 170; Olney High School reported enrollment of 194; district-wide enrollment was 692.

Dr. Roach discussed the district’s approval to provide the Seamless Summer Feeding Option for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. This program provides free breakfast and lunch to all students ages 18 and under in the district and community This program begins Nov. 2, 2020.

Dr. Roach covered the status of the Corona Relief Fund reimbursement program and the bureaucratic hurdles involved with the application process. The district is applying for approximately $38,000 in reimbursement for items purchased directly related to COVID-19.

Dr. Roach reported that the district did not receive the Texas Department of Agriculture cafeteria equipment grant. Dr. Roach reported Board of Trustees’ training hours as required by law prior to elections.

Items for action were as follows; Dr. Roach reviewed the Delinquent Tax Resale Deed for 613 and 615 N. Grand with the board. Motion by Len Bernhardt and seconded by Dirk Barrington. Motion to Approve the Delinquent Tax Resale of 613 and 615 N. Grand for $2,500.00 by Benny and Mary Thompson as presented. Motion carried 6-0.

Dr. Roach reviewed the school resource officer inter-local agreement with the City of Olney. Motion by Len Bernhardt and seconded by Jeff Harvey. Motion to approve the school resource officer inter-local agreement with the City of Olney with amendments as discussed. Motion carried 6-0.

Dr. Roach discussed the current quarantine guidelines and administrative modifications to the policy under consideration. No Action taken. Dr. Roach discussed the current Instructional Delivery programs and future options. Motion by Jeff Harvey seconded by Len Bernhardt. Motion to revise the district’s COVID-19 instructional plan and end discretionary remote instruction at the end of the current school year’s first semester. Motion carried 6-0. Motion by Len Bernhardt and seconded by Dirk Barrington. Motion to adjourn meeting at 7:28 p.m. Motion carried 6-0.
