Olney gives life

On June 19, the community blood drive at Olney Hamilton Hospital Education Center brought in donors who wanted to give the gift of life for various reasons.

Carter Bloodcare facilitated the blood drive. Carter Bloodcare is an independent, nonprofit, community blood center that provides transfusion resources to more than 180 medical facilities in counties of North, Central and East Texas. Carter Bloodcare also delivers more than 300,000 blood products annually to hospitals.

Carter Bloodcare continuously emphasizes the importance of donating blood at least once a year stating, “That way there will always be blood on the shelves when someone like an aunt, brother, father or mother, son or daughter need it.”

There will be other opportunities to donate blood when the unit returns later this year. The requirements are: the minimum weight of 110 pounds, the donor feels well that day and presents a government-issued photo ID at each donation. According to Carter Bloodcare, potential blood donors may volunteer at age 16 with parental consent; 17-year-olds may give independently, and there is no upper age limit for donating blood.
