Olney FFA students win at big Ag Mechanics shows
Olney High School students Marlee Lane, Caden Lane, and Luke Lane placed among the top competitors at Ag Mechanics Shows in San Angelo and Fort Worth this year.
Caden Lane placed second in his class at the Jan. 18 Junior Ag Mechanics Project Show with the riddle bucket he built. A riddle bucket is an attachment for an excavator that is designed to sift through materials.
At the San Angelo show on Feb. 1-3, Marlee Lane placed fifth in her class with a lamb stand. A lamb stand is used to prepare an animal for a show and perform basic veterinary care.
Caden Lane and Luke Lane also placed among the top five of about 30 competitors in their respective classes at San Angelo. Luke Lane created an outdoor swinging bench seat for his entry.
“Both shows are very competitive,” FFA Advisor Haylee Haralson said. “I am very proud of every single one of them and what they’ve done.”
All three Olney students received blue ribbons, meaning they each presented a high-quality project. They had to create a notebook, explain to the judges the process of building their entries, and document the building process.
To be recognized at major shows is a big accomplishment, Mrs. Haralson said.
Overall there were almost 1,000 projects at the San Angelo show.
