Olney Elementary’s fourth-graders visit Olney Heritage Museum

Olney Elmentary fourth-graders visited the Olney Heritage Museum Friday, Oct. 25. The Olney Heritage Museum was filled with pouncing feet between the exhibits, followed by lots of giggles and gasps from 43 eager learners.

OHM docents helped the students navigate all the current exhibits. The docents-- Ann Cumpton, Leatha Hirsch, Trudy Capps, Valorie Mahler and Barbara Larimore were the docents present who engaged the students in a tactile learning experience at the tornado simulator, the water table, the Air Tractor fuselage, farm life with the resident cow Moolatte and the general store, among other exhibits. The students asked intriguing questions, and they appeared to have an enjoyable time learning.  The docents who were not present were Lisa Lunsford and Syndal McClatchy.

Fourth-grade teacher Jaime Ricketts coordinated the visit. Mrs. Ricketts said the original plan was to take 51 students to Fort Belknap, eat lunch at the park in Olney and visit Olney Heritage Museum. However, inclement weather contributed to a change in plans. OHM docents and staff were excited to learn that the weather would not cancel the students’ visit to the museum. Students in attendance included: Jayden Dhane, Kason Knight, Jaliyah Allen, Kynlee Lauderdale, Adrian Melchor, Alyson Morales, Chandra Wright, August Ickert, Teagan Wells, Jackson Jones, Stormie Snow, Savanna Burger, Natashia Eversole,  Levi Pagsuberon, Carter Freeby, Victoria Pint, James Betts, Collin Hope, Crayton Nash, Emma Terrell, Vanessa Williams, Will Caffey, Maria Melchor, Leah Galindo, Aly Kelley, Shaine Grard, Logan Norris, Mia Leal, Karter Knight, Isac Arenas, Richard Elizondo, Jacobi Esquivel, Natalie Simmons, Reese Bennick, Jacob Gallardo, Joseph Lopez, Jackson Spurlock, Maci Goodin, AJ Solano, Halee Craven, Eli Rogers, Taegan McClain and Jasmine Bryan.

Olney Heritage Museum is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment. There is no charge for admission. Also, the museum is available to book private events for free. The space is not only terrific for current students; it is a wonderful meeting space for class reunions.
