Olney Cub Football Camp

June 15 kicked off the Olney Cubs summer football camp program. Each year the coaches at Olney ISD put on a football camp to get the 1st through 6th graders excited about playing football.

Local company Towers Extrusions LTD gladly pitches in by providing each attendee who attends the football camp their very own Cub football. This year each attendee also received an action photo of them running out or striking a pose in front of the Varsity Cubs blow up tunnel.

Olney ISD Athletic Director and Head Coach of the Olney Varsity Cubs was happy to tell the Enterprise all about the summer program. Coach Guy says there are 3 offensive stations, 3 defensive stations, a photo station and a water station. After all attendees were given an orientation speech on how things work and what to expect, the attendees where broken up into groups by age.

All attendees rotated through each station giving each little future Cub a chance to learn all the skills available during camp to help them prepare for the upcoming season.

The coaches on hand to help get the future Cubs excited for football were: Coach Rodriguez, Coach Fortner, Coach Powers, Coach Keeter, Coach Ballard and Coach Duncan. All the Coaches were eager to share football knowledge and help the attendees learn the new skills. Along with the Coaches a number of high school kids stepped up to help make the camp a success.

When asked about the main goal of the camp Coach guy said, “to get the kids to enjoy football, make it fun for them and just let em have a good time. As well as teach them the fundamentals like how to throw the ball, catch the ball and play defense.

When asked about the upcoming Cub Season Coach guy said, “we are excited about the future holds for us, we feel like we have some good kids coming and are excited for them and the old ones as well”.

Coach Guy believes this will be a good year for the Cubs and says, “he needs some upper classman to step up and put the time in along with making sacrifices towards the season”.

If this happens Coach Guy believes we will have a good chance.
