Olney Chamber to Announce Awards & Raffle

The Olney Chamber of Commerce has made a few changes to their upcoming schedule due to the Coronavirus. Chamber Director Stacy Wade announced earlier this month that the annual chamber of commerce banquet wascanceled. “We want to say we are sorry, we know this is inconvenient ,but we want to make sure that our businesses are still promoted,” Wade said.

Wade said after reviewing recommendations by the CDC and others, they decided to follow those guidelines and keep everyone safe, knowing that it was the right thing to do. Continuing with the discussion for this year’s silent auction, Wade said the banquet is usually when awards are given out, but since it has been canceled, the silent auction will go forward and awards will be distributed. Wade vows to to keep everyone updated after the virus begins its descent.

The chamber also has an annual Easter egg hunt for the children, but after a lengthy discussion, the chamber has decided to cancel it, too. Wade said that it is very important to abide by the guidelines for everyone’s safety. There are also several businesses that are apart of the chamber of commerce who are still going to see continuous support during this time. “The Chamber is here to support, assist, whatever we can do. Most of our businesses are still open during this time and they are coming up with ways to help the community,” Wade said. There are different services that these businesses offer, including phone access, delivery, curb side service, drive thru and so on. Wade says that they are going to promote these local businesses as much as possible and also had some words of encouragement for them during this unprecedented time. “Stay strong. We are all here for you. If there is anything we can do to help a business or an individual, let us know. If there is someone who needs something at home, call me at the office. We all need to stick together because we are all going through the same thing right now that we are just not sure what is going on. “ Stacey uttered. The chamber of commerce will remain open during this time, but you can always contact Stacey whether she is in the office or not. “Olney strong and Olney proud. We are going to get through this.”
