Olney in America kicks off tonight

The Olney Chamber of Commerce kicks off its fourth annual Olney in America celebration on June 27 with a fireworks display, a concert and food truck extravaganza, Chamber Vice President Luke Leonard said.
The event, which is free to the public, takes place at the Olney Country Club at 1 Bankhead Dr.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. this year, and the concert begins at 6:30 p.m. The fireworks show, sponsored by Tower Extrusions and performed by Ridinger Fireworks of Wichita Falls, starts at dark – or around 9:45 p.m., Mr. Leonard said.
Olney in America drew between 1,200 to 1,600 people last year, and signs are that it will be at least as popular this year.
The Chamber sold out of tents before the event and encouraged attendees to bring lawn chairs and blankets. The Chamber will have a large community tent with tables and chairs for people to sit and eat from a bevy of food trucks and local food vendors.
Food trucks include Kimmie’s Korn, Ken’s Chicken n Fish on the Go, Antojitos tacos, nachos and skewers, Lemonade Express and others that were being confirmed as of press time, Mr. Leonard said.
Songbird Jones of Decatur will open the concert, and Jarrod Morris, singer-songwriter of the critically praised album “West of East” is the headliner.
The Olney Senior Center will sell light-up toys for kids, and the Chamber will sponsor games such as cornhole, connect-four and washers, Chamber President Tatum Wiley said.
The Chamber is asking for donations for parking, with all proceeds benefiting the Olney Volunteer Fire Department. VIP parking passes are now on sale at the Chamber for $20, and include a golf cart ride from the parking area to the event entrance, Mr. Leonard said. Guests may purchase alcohol on-site, and event staff will conduct cooler checks.
