OJHS band students tabbed for district

Five Olney Junior High seventh graders and one eighth grade student have been selected for the TMEA Region 7 North Zone Junior High All-District Band.

Students selected to the honor band and their chair rankings are seventh graders Brieanna Hagle – flute (12th), Lexi Shook – oboe (2), Tate Twiligear – bassoon (1), and Keirah Wilk and Margarita Olvera – tenor saxophone (3rd and 4th, respectively). Hector Hernandez, an eighth grade clarinetist, was selected 21st chair in the Bb clarinet section.

Jose Olvera, seventh graders, was chosen first alternate in the bass clarinet section and Kiara Allen was named second alternate in the percussion section. She is an eighth grader.

Other students auditioning but not selected for the band include eighth graders Houston Hare (tenor Saxophone), Mary Lowe (trumpet), Haleigh Perry 

(euphonium), and Donovan Valdez (tuba). Seventh graders included Malarie Hammond, Jazmin Villeda, Trinity Bailey (flute), Natalie Del Villar (clarinet), Axel Flores and Aliayah Melchor (alto saxophone), Sarah Green, Christopher Robertson, Codey Henderson, and Hayden 

Carter (trumpet), Kami Bednarz and Madeline Clayton (trombone). Julia Lewis (tuba) also auditioned, as did Sarah Stroud (percussion).

Auditions were held Saturday, November 19 at Holliday Elementary School. Students selected to the All-District will attend a clinic/concert on January 28, 2017 at Wichita Falls High School.
