OJH Wins One Act Play Contest with ‘One Stoplight Town’

The Olney Junior High School One Act Play troupe studied hard and learned their lines for this year’s One Act Play competition - and their hard work paid off with a first-place district win last week in Archer City. The troupe chose “One Stoplight Town” as their play this season.

In addition to the district win, OJH students won a number of individual awards. Pace Hargis won best light technician; OJH won outstanding technical crew; Magnolia Caffey and Emerald Edgington received honorable mentions for the all-star cast: and Leah Hampton was named to die all-star cast.

The play is about small-town life and the pros and cons of staying or leaving a small town. The characters in the play are various common people you might find in a small town, like a high school sweetheart couple who date, marry, move away, have children then move back to that small town life.

There is the couple who are born, marry and spend their whole life never leaving the small town. There is plenty of drama all centered around Main Street and small town America, including a drag race. The play was whimsical as well as thought-provoking about the realities of small-town life.
