OJH Takes 2nd Place in TMSCA Sweepstakes

Olney Junior High School was represented well on Saturday, February 21, at the City View State Qualifying TMSCA Meet. OJH sent 34 students to compete against 12 other junior high/middle schools from Newcastle, Saint Jo, Albany, Muenster, Seymour, Windthorst, Wichita Falls, and Abilene. The Texas Math and Science Coaches Association is dedicated to promoting excellence in math and science through competition.

OJH took 2nd place in the Sweepstakes match, falling only to 5A Wylie West Junior High. Team honors included 2nd place Calculator Applications Team, 2nd place Mathematics Team, 3rd place Number Sense Team, and 3rd place Science Team.

Twenty-two students qualified for the state competition to be held in San Antonio later this spring. Students who qualified are Jaxon Bedford, Trent Berngen, Miles Branum, Emerald Edgington, Leigha Hampton, Caly Johnson, Laney Kimbro, Libby Lane, Kate Santibanez, Clara Symank, Zeph Tejada, Jackson Dinwiddie, Clayton Guthrie, Jacob Horner, Wyatt Stephens, Caroline Stewart, Carleigh Symank, Denalee Wales, Harper Bitner, Caroline Jeske, Rylan Keeter, and Caleb Symank.

Students will have two more opportunities to qualify for the state meet. Their next opportunity will be this Saturday, February 28, at home in Olney. Their final opportunity to qualify will be Saturday, March 7, in Abilene.
