OISD Board Chooses Dr. Matt Caffey as Superintendent
The Olney Independent School District Board of Trustees announced late Sunday that Dr. Matt Caffey, the district’s current high school principal, has been named the lone finalist to replace retiring Superintendent Dr. Greg Roach.
Dr. Caffey, widely believed to be the top contender for the position due to his leadership within the district, emerged after a thorough search and interview process that included input from the community.
“The Olney ISD Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Dr. Matt Caffey as the lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools,” the Board said in a statement. “This selection follows a thorough search and interview process aimed at identifying a leader to guide Olney ISD toward continued excellence.”
Dr. Caffey brings 20 years of experience in public education, including 16 years as a school administrator. He has served Olney ISD for the past eight years, spending seven years as principal of Olney High School and one year leading Olney Elementary. Under his leadership, Olney High School expanded its Advanced Placement and machining programs, improved test scores, and earned a top-rated designation from *U.S. News & World Report*.
Board President Summer Branum praised Caffey’s experience and vision.
“We are confident Dr. Caffey has the vision, leadership, and dedication to advance our district’s mission of improving the future for every student,” Branum said. “His deep understanding of our district, creativity, and drive to lead us forward stood out throughout the process.”
Trustee Jeff Harvey called Dr. Caffey “a strong advocate for our students, staff, and community,” adding that “his interview was insightful, and he’s the right person for this job.” Trustee Jodee Wales said the Board believes Dr. Caffey “will bring stability, accountability, and effective communication to Olney ISD.”
Dr. Caffey holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University, as well as a B.A. and M.Ed. from Texas A&M University.
The Board will observe a mandatory 21-day waiting period, as required by Texas Education Code Section 39.032, before officially finalizing the appointment.
