OHS students chosen for ATSS, All-District bands
Nine students from the Olney High School Band were chosen for the Association of Texas Small School Band - Region North Zone Bands on Saturday, Nov. 9.
Auditions for the band were held at Seymour High School.
Students selected for the Wind Ensemble were junior Kenley Esparza - 1st chair piccolo, seniors Lily Thames – 1st chair oboe and Jolie Widner - 2nd chair oboe, and sophomore Maddox Johnson – 1st chair bassoon.
Sophomore James Garcia was named 13th chair in the trumpet section and will perform as a member of the Symphonic Band. Sophomores Sophie Roach, Blaize DeVries and freshman Jasmine Bryan were named 7th, 8th, and 9th chairs in the French horn section of the Symphonic Band.
Mykevia Wilson, a senior, was named 1 st alternate on contrabassclarinet.
All-District Band concert will be December 14, 2025 at the Seymour High School auditorium.
Lily Thames, a senior at OHS and senior drum major of the Olney High School Band, has been notified that she placed 15th in the ATSSB Jazz Band auditions.
Lily auditioned in September for a spot in the ATSSB Region Jazz Band. Her selection as first chair bass guitar cer - tified her to the Area lev el of auditions, requiring the taping of an audition the same day.
Lily was the highest- ranking 2A bass guitarist in the state.
Selections were sent to the state level and students were ranked by a panel of judges. This is the third year of four that Lily has qualified at the Area level.
