OHS Makes History at State UIL Contest

Olney High School brought home a third-place trophy from the University Interscholastic League State Meet, marking the first time in district history that we have earned enough points to be in the top five in the state.

Olney finished in third place with 103 points out of 129 high schools. This is an awesome achievement that has been more than a decade in the making.

The speech team finished tenth out of 18 teams, and the journalism team finished sixth out of 21 teams In 2024, we were super proud of eighth place, but jumping up five places is outstanding. We are going in the right direction!

Twelve OHS students traveled to the University of Texas at Austin to compete on Monday, May 19, and Tuesday, May 20, in the state UIL contests. Ten coaches made the trip to bring home the medals and honors with the students.

Teams of calculator apps, computer programming, computer science, mathematics, and individuals in essay writing, informative speaking, persuasive speaking, prose, feature writing, headline writing, and ready writing were represented.

A shout out to the coaches who worked hard to reach this goal with the students: Sherry Livingston, Academic Coordinator; Tim Orsak; Kathy Harper; Dr. Greg Roach; Lani Caffey; Rashane Dabuet; Sabrina Laurent; Marla Kellogg; Mindi Kimbro; Jina Nickel It’s a great day to be a Cub!
