OHS Invitational Cross Country Runners Battle the Hill

Olney High School [OHS] hosted their annual Olney Invitational Cross Country Meet at the Olney Country Club on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

This meet has quickly become one of the most popular courses due to the final challenge of the course, which is a grueling 45-degree hill climb followed by a gradual incline right before finishing an already brutal course.

The crucible of a course has started drawing teams from all over Texas and continues to grow each year. It could be coaches and runners wanting bragging rights just for finishing the course or wanting to obtain a victory to receive some of the most unique and cool trophies, which are fabricated by OHS shop class and this year by Tower Extrusions.

Tower is a local manufacturer of aluminum extrusion products, such as bleachers, and numerous other products used around the globe.

This year’s big local winners included the Olney Junior High School Cubs and Lady Cubs teams who earned first place finishes.

Newcastle Varsity Ladycats earned second place for the event.

OHS had two top ten medalists: Varsity Cub Adrian Gonzalez and Varsity Lady Cub Ava Stewart.
