OEDC Appoints Rand Camp to Vacant Board Seat

The Olney Economic Development Corporation moved quickly last week to fill a vacancy on its board after rancher Clancy Myers resigned less than a month into his new term.

OEDC directors unanimously selected Rand Camp, co-owner of ACE Hardware of Olney, to replace Mr. Myers at a special meeting.

The Olney City Council must still confirm Mr. Camp’s appointment before he can officially take his seat. If approved, he and newly appointed board member Kyle Hinson, CEO of Brazos Communications, are expected to begin serving in July, according to OEDC Executive Director Tom Parker.

Mr. Hinson was selected by the OEDC board earlier this month and subsequently confirmed by the City Council.

The two appointments come at a busy time for the economic development corporation, which is overseeing several major projects aimed at supporting growth in Olney.

Among them is the rehabilitation of the former Head Start building on Springcreek Road, where officials hope to open a new daycare center before the start of the upcoming school year. The OEDC is also pursuing approximately $7 million in state grant funding to help attract a housing construction manufacturing plant to Olney.

Other projects include construction of a new hangar at Olney Municipal Airport, completion of repairs and improvements at the Olney sub-courthouse, and helping identify future projects for the city’s newly created Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone.

With Mr. Camp’s appointment pending and Mr. Hinson preparing to join the board, the OEDC is expected to have a full slate of directors in place as it advances several of the community’s highest- profile development initiatives.

The other board members are Phil Jeske, Tammy Montgomery, Jackie Voyles, Rick Turner, and Johnny Moore.
