OCLAC summer reading contest hands out prizes

During June, July and the first week of August, the Children’s Library at the Olney Community Library & Arts Center provided an opportunity for young readers to keep track of their reading. They could read books from the library, home, on-line sources or other libraries. Reading is such an important part of continuing education, that a contest of who could read the most books and win the most points was part of the library’s summer program. The theme this year was “Oceans of Possibilities!” They could pursue books with this theme in mind or choose something else.

There were two categories: Picture Books, with younger readers in mind or Chapter Books for more advanced readers. The reader chose their category and kept track of books on an “Ocean of Possibilities” Reading Log. Following is the list of the participants: Autumn Ballard, Janessa Berngen, Trent Berngen, Brayson Betts, Kameron Betts, Grant Blevins, Henry Blevins, McKenzie Bullock, Matthew Bullock, Blake Butler, Heagan Calhoun, Denis Geter, Lucas Geter, Weston Hickam, Kennedy Inge, Caroline Jeske, Grace Jeske, Laney Kimbro, Zoey Krajca, Archer Miller, Gunn Miller, D’yanna Moss, Jack Patterson, Jameson Patterson, Bryce Smith, West Stephens, Wyatt Stephens, Caroline Stewart, Mae Stewart, Carleigh Symank, Clara Symank, Gretchen Symank, Lucy Symank, Zeph Tejada, Raluca Vasiloiu, and Lucia Wallen.

The winner for the Picture Book category is Weston Hickam! The winner for Chapter Books is Bryce Smith! Congratulations to our two winners!

Thank you to the adults who brought children to the library for this program and helped with the continued success with the new school year for all the participants.
