OCLAC hosts storytime with Bernadette Nason
As part of its summer program, Oceans of Possibilities, Olney Community Library & Arts Center’s [OCLAC] hosted author and expert storyteller, Bernadette Nason. OCLAC’s Oceans of Possibilities is a summer-long program promoting reading and other fun events hosted at the library for the children of Olney and surrounding area.
Nason is author of two adult books titled, Stealing Baby Jesus and Tea in Tripoli, as well as an actress and a traveling storyteller with the Texas Commission of the Arts. Nason was at the OCLAC to tell two multicultural stories to the children: one story from Japan and one story from ancient Greece. Nason has been traveling and telling stories for about 22 years.
Nason, who is originally from England, says that when she was passing through Austin about 30 years ago, she decided to put down roots and has lived there ever since. Nason attended the Guildford School of Acting at the University of Surrey, in England.
“I love my life as a storyteller and author. What I am especially fond of about the summer reading program is that it gives me the opportunity to bring people into the library and keep them there, especially children, because there is a large gap between the end of a school year and the beginning of the first semester,” Nason said. “The children are keeping their studies up without even knowing it, just by reading books over the summer.”
Nason said her most famous star turn occurred in the Sandra Bullock movie “Miss Congeniality,” in which she played a small role as the pageant consultant. For more information on Nason or where she will be next please visit her website at bernadettenason.com.
