Nickel wins essay contest & Olney students selected as finalists

Students across the area submitted essays for the Fort Belknap Government-in-action Youth DC Tour Essay contest this year. Five finalists were chosen and then interviewed in order to choose this year’s winner. Bryanna Nickel, a senior at Newcastle High School, was chosen as this year’s winner. She will be joining the Texas delegation and other winners from across the country for a nine day tour of Austin and then DC. The trip takes place in June. Bryanna is the daughter of Dr. Tony and Jina Nickel, of Graham.

Lance Sprague, a senior at Olney High School, and Kiara Allen, a junior at Olney High School, were also finalists this year. Woodson High School Student, Kylie Deaton, was awarded 2nd place. Myia Celeste, also of Woodson, was the other finalist this year.

The Electric Youth Tour sends more than 1500 students from all across America to Washington DC, where they have the opportunity to meet with their U.S. senators and representatives and explore the nation’s capital.
