Mr. Hyde Spotted at OJH

A troupe from Olney Junior High School finished third in the One Act Play competition and received many other honors for their production of “Chemical Imbalance,” a short play taken from the popular book Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and re-made for one act by Lauren Wilson and produced by special arrangement with Dramatist Play Services. Actors, stage crew and directors from Olney Junior High traveled to Seymour High School on Nov. 16 to compete in the University Interscholastic League’s One Act Play [OAP] competition.

After endless hours of practicing and a dress rehearsal in front of the community of Olney, the OAP troupe put on a masterful performance for the judges at the UIL competition. The honors won by the OJH students included an honorable mention for Best Techical Crew; Aubree Englishbee was chosen for the All-Star Cast; Ava Stewart and Addison Guerra won Best Performers in their roles; Maddox Johnson and the OJH cast won third place for their performances.

“Chemical Imbalance” is set in the Victorian Era, and opens on December 18. Maddox Johnson put on a comedic extravaganza with his portrayal of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, having the audience bursting into laughter at every turn, Mr. Johnson changed from a somewhat wacky scientist into an out-ofcontrol monster, leaving the stage littered with bodies by the end of the play. The rest of the players filled in as a supporting cast and played their parts with great expertise and passion. Congratulations to the cast and crew of the OJH OAP on third place and honors.
