Looking Back

 Six Olney High School band students will be traveling to the Austin area on Friday, May 24, for the 2013 Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Students from Olney competing include senior Britney Robertson, juniors Annie Hirsch, Schelby Ming, Dionecia Petit and Hannah Taylor and freshman William Allen.

Robertson will be performing a Class I Johannes Brahms Sonata No. 2 in Eb Major. Petit will perform her piano solo, 'Girl with the Flaxen Hair,' by Claude Debussy.

Robertson, Petit and Taylor will also take the State Music Theory Test at the contest.

The saxophone trio of Hirsch (alto saxophone), Allen (tenor saxophone) and Ming (baritone saxophone) will perform its 'Trio Op. 87' (movements 3 and 4) by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Students from 1A to 3A will compete at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville.

Students of the OHS Pride of Olney will be among 42,000 music students from across Texas competing for honors in musical performance. They will be accompanied by their directors, Rodney and Marilyn Bennett, accompanist Carol Glover, Rachael Petit and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Taylor.
