Lightning ends scoreless Cubs-Haskell game
After an intense back and forth battle at home on Sept. 8, the Olney High School Varsity football game against Haskell ended at halftime because of lightning.
When the game was called, the score was 0-0.
The Cubs played stellar defense. “I thought our defense played really well. They only gave up 43 yards in the first half,” said head coach Jason Powers.
“On offense, we are moving the ball well at times,” Powers said. But he added, “We have to cut down on penalties that take big plays away and put us behind the chains.”
The teams tried waiting the weather out. However, by the time the storm was forecast to pass, the game would have been over past midnight. Powers said the main concern was the safety of Haskell’s players and their fans who would have been driving home late at night.
