Lauren Pham: Should the US get involved in matters affecting other countries or stay out and “take care of ourselves”? Why or why not?
Logan Norris, sophomore: “I believe the U.S. needs to pick and choose more than just involving ourselves in everyone else’s problems. To an extent we should be involved but some things don’t affect us and we should mind our business. We should be involved with allies or those we trade with, however some country that has no affiliation with us, we don’t import, export, or are allied with we should leave them be, but in extreme cases like mass genocides we should intervene. In my opinion we seem to be in everyone else’s business more than our own at some times, we have and will always have our own problems and need to put the wellbeing of our country and its citizens first that should always be the priority, but if this means intervening with others countries then so be it.”
Fernanda Cardenas, sophomore: “I think the US shouldn’t get involved in matters affecting other countries because we have enough trouble inside our own country to worry about other. Though it is a good thing that we want to help other countries, as we currently stand, we need to focus on bettering our own country.”
Jojo Acuna, senior: “Being a global superpower, The United States actions have great impacts on the rest of the world. I believe that the U.S. should be involved in some matters affecting other countries; however, it should be done in a careful way. The world is very interconnected so any issue, whether it’s terrorism, economic, or global trade, affects many countries, including the U.S. At the same time, I also believe that it would be invasive to jump into every conflict, especially with the use of military force. Ultimately, The U.S should be involved with other countries but not overreach.”
Alyson Hernandez, senior: “I personally am against the involvement of the United States in foreign affairs. The U.S. has stood with Israel during the war against Gaza essentially funding a genocide. Not to mention the economic effects U.S. intervention has had on Latin America.”
Lila McCutcheon, biology teacher: “The U.S. should indeed be involved in world politics. As a superpower, the U.S. has an obligation to help other NATO nations to maintain peace and continue to strive as a global economic influence. If another influential nation were to fall, it would compromise the world economy which would affect the economy of the U.S. Everything boils down to economics when world powers are involved. Each major economy relies on trade and commerce from other countries. If one is compromised, it affects the rest of the world economy. In order to maintain open commerce, the U.S. must stay involved in matters affecting other countries.”
