Key is honored at Olney Library for 38 years of Service

Family, friends and supporters gathered for the celebration of Clifton Key’s retirement after serving more than 38 years on the Olney Community Library board. The celebration was Sunday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at the library located at 807 W. Hamilton.

All of the attendees wished him well and thanked him for his service and continued support. Key had mentioned that he will always be involved with the library as it is close to his heart.

Shannon Rodriguez prepared a “Book” cake that all participants enjoyed throughout the celebration.

Clifton Key became the board president in July 1981.Key said one of the accomplishments that he is most proud of is the book donation program, which was started by the Rotary Club and in later years was picked up by First United Methodist Church and Russell and Evelyn Altmiller, who retired from the board in 2018. This program provides a free book to children to isnpire them to read.

Key’s advice to the next board president is to be prepared to raise money for the library, which is a 501c(3) nonprofit orgranization.

Library director Lori Cox anounced that Rue Rogers will replace Clifton Key as board president. The announcement will be made official after the board reconvenes in July.
