Keep Olney Beautiful Hosts First Annual Jingle and Mingle

Keep Olney Beautiful (KOB) hosted its first “Jingle and Mingle” in partnership with the Junior Altruistic club Friday, Dec. 7, from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p. m. The KOB members and the Junior Altruistic members said they were pleased with the outcome and the participation from the community.

Participants could go from one tour site to the next with no time restrictions at any of the locations. Each home was decorated according to the homeowner’s vision for the holidays. “All the homes were beautiful and decorated nicely,” Rogers said.

Despite the cold and rainy weather, approximately 80 people participated in the event and KOB members met their goal by selling 100 tickets with proceeds more than $2,000. The KOB committee plans to use the proceeds from the Jingle and Mingle fundraiser to beautify Griffin Park. In the future, KOB and Junior Altruistic will work together to landscape the two entrances into Olney on the east and west ends of town. The KOB president, Rue Rogers, said they hope to start construction on the park during the first quarter of 2019.

Rogers expressed gratitude for participation from volunteers who contributed to the success of the event. The home tour guides were: Karen Craig & Connie Horany (Junior Altruistic), Tami Harvey (KOB) at the home of Casey McClelland; Kaci Creel (KOB), Sherry Altmiller and Julie Campbell (Junior Altruistic) at the home of Gaylynn McClelland (Junior Altruistic); Hannah Stewart (KOB), Julie Stewart and Jan Tyler (Junior Altruistic) at the home of Julie Lane; Melody Rogers (Junior Altruistic) at the home of Cleo Rogers.

The volunteers at Hometown Coffee & Tea included: Jennifer Lane (Junior Altruistic & KOB), Barbara Calvin, Trudy Capps, Cathy Marion, Trina Johnson and Julie Hinson (Junior Altruistic).

The shuttle bus volunteers were Jan Braddock (KOB), Pastor Harrell Braddock and Rue Rogers (KOB).

All the Junior Altruistic members prepared and donated all the treats for the event at Hometown Coffee & Tea.

Tammy Montgomery (Altruistic) created a Christmas arrangement for each home as a token of appreciation for each of the homeowners who welcomed guests to tour their homes.

“We plan to make the event bigger and better every year,” Rogers said.
