Judge Graham Holds Court at Hudson’s
Supporters of Young County Judge Win Graham gathered Thursday evening at Hudson’s on Main in Olney for a meet-and-greet ahead of the May 26 runoff election.
Judge Graham, 55, faces former Young County Judge John Charles Bullock, 75, who retired after nearly three decades of service as both a Young County commissioner and county judge.
A crowd of Olney residents and county officials turned out to voice support for Judge Graham and his work during his time in office.
Former Precinct 3 Commissioner RL Spivey praised Judge Graham’s leadership.
“He’s doing a hell of a job,” Mr. Spivey said.
Olney Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Tom Parker credited Judge Graham with helping move forward economic initiatives in the county, including the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) approved in Olney.
“Judge Graham is a breath of fresh air for Young County,” Mr. Parker said. “An example of that is the TIRZ that was passed in Olney. He is probably one of the best financial minds we’ve ever had in that position.”
Precinct 3 Commissioner Alan Craig said Graham’s preparation and organization have helped county officials carry out their work.
“He’s for the county,” Mr. Craig said. “His organization and the time he spends on county business ahead of time makes my job easy.”
Judge Graham’s campaign has drawn opposition from a small but outspoken group of landowners who have raised concerns about his negotiations with solar farm and data center companies seeking tax abatements for proposed projects.
County officials have said the developments could bring more than $14 million per year in revenue to Young County.
Supporters at Thursday’s event said the potential new revenue could help the county address ongoing budget challenges caused by state property tax limits and the large number of agricultural exemptions in the county.
The runoff election will be held May 26.
