Interlocal agreement between City of Olney and Young County remains pending

On Monday, July 23, the Young County Commissioner’s Court unanimously approved a motion to submit their contract regarding the interlocal agreement with the City of Olney as it was originally written. Olney Chief Civilian Administrator Conny Clay presented the Olney City Council’s perspective on the matter, but also commented that the interlocal agreement (which would assign an officer, under the Young County Sheriff’s office, to work in the City of Olney), would only need to be put in place until all positions are filled at the Olney Police Department. Clay said this process is estimated to take two to three months.

At the Olney City Council meeting on Monday, July 23, the council unanimously voted to not approve the contract, due to questions and concerns regarding the indemnity clause - a contractual transfer of risk between two parties - in the contract. This concern was raised by the city’s attorney and the matter has been tabled pending futher clarification.
