HOW TO VOTE FOR A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE

Finfrock faces off in the Nov. 8 general election against Win Graham, the victor of the Republican primary. Texas election rules state that Finfrock will not be identified by political party on the ballot, said Kaitlyn Mosley, Young County elections administrator.

His campaign, run by Reta McCallum and Mary Ellen Burch, will pay the $750 filing fee and declaration of candidacy between July 23 and August 22, Finfrock said. While his name will not appear on the general election ballot, voters can select “write-in candidate” for the county judge race and type in his name on the pop-up keyboard, she said. A list of write-in candidates will appear on the dividers of each voting machine, she said.

“They will have to write in Joe Finfrock,” she said. “It can’t be misspelled by one letter or it won’t count.”
