The House of Mercy Blessed and a Blessing

Philip Wallum

“I was living in depression and was full of a sinful nature. I knew nothing of God’s Word,” said Philip Wallum, a House of Mercy Level Four resident. After spending six months in the program, Wallum said he is focused on “teaching the Word truthfully” while staying involved with H.O.M.E.

Currently, Wallum is a house parent at the House of Mercy and considers the residents and staff as family. “My family is the House of Mercy. Preston and Trena Crow are my father and mother figures whom I love dearly,” Wallum said.

H.O.M.E. focuses on strengthening the residents’ faith in God through daily classes that entail scripture reading, teaching and activities. As a result of this Biblical rigor, Wallum said his relationship with God is important and what he likes most about the H.O.M.E. He said, “No matter what troubles or obstacles or trials I go through, nothing is compared to what Glory is to come.”

Wallum described his journey H.O.M.E. “When I came here, I was living a life of sin with all the symptoms that came with it, including being ready to give up completely. I eventually surrendered my all to God and got out of his way. He slowly molded me like a lump of clay into the man he created me to be. He delivered me from my sin. He taught me to do all things in and with love for others and myself for his namesake. Now, I live for Christ, and I am content through all things with much joy, even in my sufferings. I now rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything, I give God thanks. The Lord is my everything, and I would not want it any other way. I give God great thanks for the House of Mercy.”
