The House of Mercy Blessed and a Blessing

Lori Davenport

Level 3 resident Lori Davenport said her life was going downhill before she learned about the good things House of Mercy was doing for people who need help. The mother of two children, 24 and 14, she arrived at the House of Mercy Sept. 10, 2019.

What Davenport likes most about the House of Mercy is, “It makes me feel good enough to be somebody.” Her story does not differ much from the stories that we’ve heard from others at the House of Mercy. Many of us have faced adversities in our lives. In some cases, we’ve had friends and family to pick us up from ashes. However, support is not an option for some people and that is why the House of Mercy has become a valuable resource for people who need the love and help that is required to believe in themselves again. Because of the House of Mercy, Davenport believes in herself and God again.

“Before I got to the House of Mercy, I was so wrapped up in myself being so mad at God,” Davenport said. She credits her transformation to “Preston Crow and a few of our other teachers like Nancy, Rodney and Justin” who break down the Bible and how God works. For this reason, she is back on the right track and plans to stay there.

“I plan to continue my walk moving forward with God even after I graduate because I like the feeling of being able to smile and smiling for the right reasons. I thank everyone here at the House, including Trena Crow and Tammy Becerra, for being so easy to talk to. They make me feel good enough to be somebody no matter what I do, and that I am somebody,” Davenport said.

H.O.M.E. continues to strengthen our community by strengthening the lives of those like Davenport, who give back in many ways. “The House of Mercy has changed my life, and I plan on staying here in Olney to continue my walk with God,” Davenport said.
