Hospital Auxilary goes to Abilene

Each fall, the officers of the Texas Association of Healthcare Volunteers (TAHV) journey around the state to attend 10 district meetings. This year’s District 6 meeting was held in Abilene, Texas, last month and was hosted by the Hendrick Medical Center Volunteers. Seven members of the Olney Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary and one member of the Seymour Hospital Auxiliary were able to attend.

The best parts of the meeting were networking and hearing the president’s reports on what other volunteer groups do at their hospitals. We also got to see what fundraisers are the most successful for other groups, and what programs other groups have in support of their patients, families and staff.

There were also two wonderful speakers: one on “Volunteerism,” (relating to recruitment and retention of volunteers) and one on “The Key Nutrients for Aging Well.” Meetings such as these are very motivational and benefit all attendees.

96 volunteers - representing 10 hospitals - were present, including six TAHV board members, three TAHV past presidents and three directors of Volunteer Services.
