H.O.M.E. Texoma Gives Open House Sept. 10

On Aug. 17, Charles “Tuna” Sheppard signed a lease with the Olney Housing Authority and received the key to his first apartment, ever. Sheppard has spent more than 35 years working for and traveling with the carnival. Growing older and learning to live with some health problems, Sheppard learned of House of Mercy Enterprises from a friend who worked in the same carnival circuit. He also learned to read, using his Bible as his textbook, during his time at H.O.M.E. Sheppard will be the twentieth graduate in our young ministry.

One week later, Lori Davenport, also signed her lease with OHA. Davenport is looking forward to settling into her own apartment. She has learned tools that have equipped her to be a productive member of our community. Sheppard and Davenport will both graduate H.O.M.E. ‘s year long program in September. She will be graduate number twenty-one.

This year, House of Mercy Enterprises, will participate in Texoma Gives, a 16-hour online giving event. On Sept. 10, 2020, from 6am until 10 p.m., eligible 501(c)3 area nonprofits receive not only funding from donors, but several chances, throughout the day, to receive bonus funding through the initiative. This giving day, sponsored by the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation (WFACF), provides an easy option for people seeking to donate to worthy causes from the comfort of their home, office, computer, mobile phone, etc. The minimum donation is just $10.

House of Mercy Enterprises invites you - our community -to come by on Thurs. Sept. 10, and find out what’s going on in our H.O.M.E. Take a tour, sit in on a class, or join us for a bite to eat! We will be serving hot dogs, chips and a drink, cooked up hot for anyone who would like to drop by for either lunch or dinner. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

There are many success stories here at H.O.M.E.:

Tammy Becerra, the first graduate of this Ministry, is the Kitchen Manager and House Mother.

Several graduates - Gary Salzman, Nancy Bowden, Christopher Taylor, Kalena Smith, Angela Lockard and Philip Wallum, lead classes.

Additionally, many work in the community, Nancy Bowden and Charlie Rogers (Stewart’s), Lori Taylor (Olney Enterprise), Kalena and Vince Smith (Tower), Christopher Taylor (Cemco).

Aaron Heath and Chet Lockard are graduates that supervise crews in Hands of Mercy Employment.

In the short time we have been open, (we will celebrate our three-year anniversary on Sept. 15), we have been blessed to see lives transform. Exciting things are happening, through the Word of God, lives are impacted here daily. We need our community’s support and funding. Please be a part of changing someone’s life? #Texomagives #HouseofMercyEnterprises.
