Henrietta teen killed outside Olney
A 17-year-old girl from Henrietta was killed and another teen was injured when their vehicle was hit by a dump truck on State Highway 251, about 7.5 miles south of Olney, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:41 a.m. on June 13 under clear skies and dry road conditions.
Preliminary findings from the Texas Highway Patrol indicate that a 2012 Mack dump truck, driven by 28-year-old Wesley Paul Dake of Maplewood, Minnesota, was traveling southbound on SH 251. A 2015 Ford Focus, carrying the two teenage girls was traveling behind the dump truck, also headed south.
According to investigators, the dump truck moved onto the southbound shoulder to make a wide left turn, and the driver of the Ford Focus attempted to pass. As the dump truck began its turn, it struck the right side of the car.
The 17-year-old driver of the Ford Focus, from Graham, sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to Olney Hamilton Hospital for treatment. Her passenger, a 17-yearold girl from Henrietta, was also transported to Olney Hamilton Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Both teens were wearing seatbelts, as was the driver of the dump truck, who was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
No additional information, including the names of the minors, has been released at this time due to their age.
