A Heavenly Mind

DEVOTIONAL

“Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.”

Colossians 3:2 NASBS

Beloved in Christ, let not your heart be weary, nor allow the desires of this world to turn it into a posture of dismay. But rather, set your affections upon Christ Who is at the right hand of His Father where He reigns as the one true King. Allow your meditations upon His word to be without distractions so that the windows of heaven will open up to you, and let it be there that you dwell. For His word is not an idol word to you, indeed it is your life and by it, you will find life here in this world. Comfort yourself with these words, “I have loved you with an everlasting love;” “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.” Christian, to overcome the momentary afflictions of this fallen world you must discipline yourself to godliness with a heavenly mindset, understanding that Jesus will never leave you nor forsake you. Concerning this, the word of God says, “Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.”

So then beloved, forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, pursue the righteousness of Jesus Christ Who is the lover of your soul. He must be the center of your life, and your affections and desires must be centered upon Him. Therefore, fix the eyes of your heart upon the cross where Jesus bore away your sins. Visit the empty tomb where He was placed, that is now vacated. Go outside of Jerusalem and gaze upon His triumphal ascension and see Him victoriously ascend to heaven with the saints of old. Now Christian, hear the Angel say, “This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.” Understand that you have been saved to the uttermost; the infinite God, Who holds the world together, loves you far more than you will ever be able to fathom. You see, apart from Christ, nothing is really pleasant and satisfying to the heavenly mind. Without Him, what a dreary, lonesome wilderness this would be, but with Christ in the heart, and the heart resting in Christ, you have everything.

Now with great joy cry aloud with one of the saints who has went before you, “I bless thee for the soul thou hast created, for adorning it, sanctifying it, though it is fixed in barren soil; for the body thou hast given me, for preserving its strength and vigour for providing senses to enjoy delights, for the ease and freedom of my limbs, for hands, eyes, ears that do thy bidding; for thy royal bounty providing my daily support, for a full table and overflowing cup, for appetite, taste, sweetness, for social joys of relatives and friends, for ability to serve others, for a heart that feels sorrows and necessities, for a mind to care for my fellow-men, for opportunities of spreading happiness around, for loved ones in the joys of heaven, for my own expectation of seeing thee clearly. I love thee above the powers of language to express, for what thou art to thy creatures. Increase my love, O my God, through time and eternity.” May the Lord make is so for you today.
