HD-68 Special Election unofficial results

The results are in for the Texas House District 68 seat as David Spiller and Craig Carter are headed for a run off.

Spiller received over 43 percent of the vote, while businessman Craig Carter, received 18 percent. This election consisted of five candidates-- four Republicans and one democratic candidate. The race is now down to two Republican candidates, both looking to make their mark on Austin. Spiller has the endorsement from former United States Secretary of Energy and Texas Governor, Ricky Perry. “It’s official! Our campaign has made the runoff. Due to the strong support of you and your neighbors, we came in first place out of five candidates with almost 44% of the vote. Thank you so much, “ said candidate and local Jacksboro lawyer David Spiller. “As we enter the final round of this Special Election, I promise to continue advocating for our rural conservative values. Stay tuned for voting information for the runoff, and I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail,” Spiller added.

“There are already too many lawyers and politicians down in Austin. I am a business who has brought over 100 jobs to our community, and I will bring that same business sense that President Trump has down to Austin to get our Texas economy back on track,” candidate Craig Carter stated. Spiller and Carter both attended the forum that was held at the Young County Republicans meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Both candidates present strong conservative values as both campaigns press on for the days ahead. Jacksboro financial planner John Berry received 17 percent of the vote, while former Cooke County Judge Jason Brinkley, received 16 percent.

Spiller and Carter now go head to head to determine who will hold the District 68 House seat. There is no official date for the run-off as of yet, but the expectation is that the election will take place sometime in February.
