FSB Insight with David Parkey, VP

David W. Parkey, First State Bank’s new Vice President, has lived in this area his whole life with his family ranch originating in Archer County in 1882. When First State Bank’s Olney branch opened in May of 2014 they were without a designated, full time branch manager or officer. Having attended college at Tarleton State University and Texas Christian University, he was a perfect fit for the job. The Parkey’s already felt a close connection to Olney, having transferred their oldest daughter from Archer City to Olney Elementary in 2007 to enroll in the Scottish Rite Take Flight dyslexia program. In Addition, the Parkeys two youngest children were both born at Olney’s Hamilton Hospital. In 2019, Parkey decided to take that step and fill the position of Vice President. “We are very much at home in these small communities and servicing our customers and that’s where we (First State Bank) fit. All of our people are small town local people and this is where we want to be,” Parkey stated.

One of the achievements Parkey is proud of was the opportunity they had to assist the community through the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) loans. “We were able to help a lot of our customers and also many that weren’t our customers,” Parkey stated. Parkey added, “We gained quite a few new customers just because we went out of our way to help them.” First State Bank has serviced 208 PPP loans in Young County alone totaling $10.14 million with a total of 315 loans as of June 17.

Parkey is a Vice President of the bank and manages the branch in Olney and also First State Banks newest branch in Archer City. Parkey feels very strongly that is it important for him to physically be in both branches each day so he can connect with his customers in Young and Archer Counties.

When asked if he supports the Olney Cubs or the Archer City Wildcats, Parkey responded with, “I grew up a Holliday Eagle, and my two youngest are Archer Wildcats, but on Friday I will proudly wear an Olney Cubs shirt while in the [Olney] bank and while in Archer City I wear an Archer City Wildcats shirt.”

In closing, Parkey stated, “We never really identify as THIS community or THAT community, we’ve always done business and felt at home in all of these communities.”
