Freezin’ for a Reason Golf Tournament on 3/5

Get your golf carts and gear ready so you can golf for a cause. The annual Freezin’ for a Reason Golf Tournament will return to Olney Country Club Saturday, March 5. Registration will begin at 10 a.m., and teeoff is at 10:30 a.m.

The price per person is $50 and includes 18 holes of golf and a meal catered by Kim Stephens and Phyllis Lee. The cost for a four person team is $200.00 and includes the golf cart.

Casey Keeter and Kevin Bullock will provide live music, and the dance party will begin at approximately 8 p.m.

Susan McElroy and Lisa Sprague started Freezin’ for a Reason 10 years ago. Katie Rowe now manages the event along with Susan McElroy and Kalynn Philipp. Rowe explained the importance of this annual golf tournament.

“We felt that people in the community were not getting the help they needed, so we started this event to help fill the void. We use the proceeds to give to other nonprofit organizations in the community, such as The Refuge and the Senior Cub Center’s Meals on Wheels program. In addition, we have given memorials to the library, and we’ve given the school nurse money to purchase clothing and shoes for children in need. Last year, we gave three students $1,000 scholarships to assist with their college costs,” Rowe said.

Rowe and the organizers are encouraging everyone to come out to support this worthy cause. She said you can still come to enjoy the meal and music for only $15 if you choose not to play golf. This event is open to everyone. Also, there will be a silent auction throughout the day

Also, there will be a silent auction throughout the day until 8 p.m. The auction will include baked goods, a chain saw, and a signed baseball from the Texas Rangers, among other items. Your bid will benefit nonprofit causes in Olney. The event organizers are grateful to the event sponsors for the 2022 Freezin’ for a Reason Golf Tournament.
