Fish, Fellowship, Foot Tapping at FBCO

If you’re craving crispy fried catfish and a heaping helping of good old-fashioned community spirit, mark your calendar for Saturday, March 29.

From 5 to 7 p.m., the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church of Olney will be buzzing with music, laughter, and the irresistible smell of golden hush-puppies and fresh-cut fries at the Second Annual Big Fish Fry & Opry.

While the food alone is worth the visit (fish, coleslaw, beans, fries, dessert all for a suggested $15 donation), it’s the purpose behind the plates that makes the evening truly special.

This year, FBCO plans to take around 35 students and adult sponsors to youth camp in Glorieta, New Mexico, from June 11–15.

It’s a week packed with fun and spiritual growth, including church services, hiking, recreation, and themed nights like Tacky Prom, Island Night, and Time Machine Night.

“It’s a great opportunity,” says Pastor Chad Edgington. “We’ll be taking kids who rarely get the chance to leave the state.”

The campers, in grades 7 through 12, will be on hand at the Fish Fry, working hard as servers to help earn credit toward their camp costs. Your support helps them get there—and gives you a delicious meal and a memorable night in return.

While you eat, you’ll be treated to a toe-tapping “Opry” show featuring live country and gospel music performed by FBCO youth and church musicians. It’s a full evening of community, comfort food, and local talent that’ll lift your spirits.

Can’t stay for the show? No problem. The Fish Fry is dine-in, carry-out, or delivery (within Olney city limits). Just call the church office before noon on Friday, March 28 to schedule a delivery.
