First Baptist to hold 125th birthday party

First Baptist Church Olney, Texas will be celebrating its 125 years of ministry here in Olney during the 10:45a.m. on June 11.

The congregation decided in 2108 to hold an anniversary celebration service every five years. The celebration will feature historic hymns that would have been sung by the church at its founding, songs the church currently enjoys today, a recitation of the history of the church, a recognition of the descendants of founding members, and a strong gospel message with an evangelistic appeal.

The service will be followed with a full barbeque meal complete with all the fixings. The planning committee assures everyone there will be plenty of delicious food.

“We think it is important to stop and remember where we’ve been and how God has been faithful to this people called First Baptist Church for all these years. As we press into the future with plans to build a new building to reach generations that will follow, it is important to remember those faithful saints who helped lead us to this point, said Dr. Chad A. Edgington, Pastor of First Baptist Olney.

“We forget that this area was once considered a frontier area for Texas Baptists. Thanks to our heritage here at FBCO, we have a strong and growing church. But if we are not vigilant in worship and service, this area will be frontier for the Gospel again.”

Dale Lovett, Barbara Larimore (church historian), Kristy Simmons, Verma Fobbs, and Dr. Edgington serve on the Anniversary Planning Committee.

The public is warmly invited to attend, especially former members and those who grew up attending First Baptist Church.

First Baptist Church is located at 201 West Main Street. If you have any questions, please call Chad A. Edgington at 940.250.8273.
