First Baptist Church teams with Chick-Fil-A in camp fundraiser

The First Baptist Church of Olney sold more than 500 Chick-Fil-A sandwiches at a May 17 lunchtime fundraiser to help local teens attend Glorieta Adventure Camp in New Mexico, said Church office manager Jan Simmons. The meals included a Chick-Fil-A sandwich, chips, homemade cookies and a bottle of water.

The fundraiser with Chick-Fil-A helps with the cost of the youth camp, which is open to children of any denomination who have completed seventh grade up through 12th grade, Simmons said. Children earned money toward the cost of the camp by helping pack and hand out the meals.

The camp attendees will participate in Bible studies, projects, games and worship services, she said.

“Right now, we have 17 signed up but our cutoff date is June 12, so we’ll probably have 20,” Simmons said. “We had a lot of volunteers. Children who are in school helped pack things Sunday night and Monday night, and Tuesday the home-schooled children helped out.”
