Fifth annual food truck championship
Saturday, June 1 Graham Texas Chamber of Commerce hosted the Food Truck Championship for the fifth year in a row at Americas largest courthouse square.
With $10,000 at stake to the winner of this Texas-size battle of culinary wizards, the competition was fierce. With more than 40 food trucks competing, a large appetite was a must at this year’s main attraction.
My favorite food truck this year was “BoThai” based out of Abilene, Texas. They serve up traditional Thai cuisine. Thai food is balanced by sweet, sour, spicy and salty, which gives it a tsunami of umami. After sampling their Pad Thai, the food truck had a lock on my vote.
The Randy Rogers Band featuring Koe Wetzel has an authentic country sound. As many country music bands go more pop-mainstream, it was refreshing to hear a country band that sounded like pure country use to be. The crowd agreed appeared to agree with my assessment as they had many smiles and movements that indicated their enjoyment of the musical style of this band.
The Ghost Dance was another band we enjoyed listening to their music, which was more of pop-country. The audience enjoyed their playing as was evident by the joyful expressions of the audience.
People’s choice award went to: Daddy Bob’s Smoke wagon, Best food truck spirit: Bite My Biscuit, Best food truck theme/ design: Yum Pig, Best international dish: F&F Express, Best American cuisine: Bada Bing Wood Fired Pizza, Best barbecue: Catered Delights, Best desert Of Grace Cakes, unique menu: Dough Boy doughnuts, Best signature dish: Southern Xposures and Grand Champion: Camo Hippie Chowhall.
