Farewell, Jeff Harvey!

Farewell, Jeff Harvey!

OISD Trustee Retires After 21 Years

After more than two decades of steady leadership and transformational progress, Jeff Harvey is stepping down from the Olney ISD Board of Trustees, marking the end of an era that saw the district grow from financial uncertainty into a strong, forward-looking school system.

Harvey, who served 21 years on the board, reflected on the many changes and challenges he witnessed during his tenure, but said none was more impactful than the 2006 annexation of the Megargel Independent School District.

“The biggest change was taking over the Megargel School District,” Harvey said. “That helped us financially— that really was wonderful. That, to me, was one of the bigger pinnacles of those 21 years, along with getting to see all the kids and being part of the administration” Mr. Harvey was part of the school leadership team that oversaw the construction of the new high school, the Career and Technical Education (CTE) building, and the gymnasium.

“We came out of [the financial difficulties] and got into academics, and we have managed to grow to the point where, hey, it’s time for me to go,” he said. “These folks are going to do great and wonderful things. I’m just so proud for them. They have great leadership around that board, so I am excited for them.”

Mr. Harvey offered high praise for incoming superintendent Dr. Matt Caffey, who was recently hired to replace outgoing superintendent Dr. Greg Roach.

“I think that is going to be a seamless deal,” Mr. Harvey said. “I’m really pumped about what that young feller is going to do for this district. We need him here—he is the right man for the job.”

Harvey will be succeeded by Reid Miller, who ran unopposed for the open seat and will be sworn in at the next school board meeting. Miller, who has young children in the district, said he felt called to serve to help shape the educational experience for all local families.
