El Chamuco Mexican Restaurant, located at 1010 W. Main Street (Circle K) in Olney, officially opened on Sept. 1 and held the grand opening Nov. 12. The Restaurant is owned by Sylvia Salazar, according to Texas business filings. Elizabeth Guzman is currently the manager. Neither the owner nor the manager was available for an interview.

Many residents said they are happy to see a Mexican restaurant return to Olney. They have proven their excitement by patronizing the business; the parking lot has been full consistently since the opening. Here are a few of the patrons’ opinions on our photographer’s Facebook page: Erica Englishbee said, “My grandmother got the Barbacoa Street tacos, and I got the sour cream chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. We loved it.”

Brandi Hope said, “We had Asada burritos from there. They are amazing.”

“We had enchiladas and quesadillas, and they were great! The queso was yummy, too,” Julie Hinson exclaimed.

Will Sadler said that the service was great, and everyone who has eaten there loves it so far. “I had the green Chile Verde; It was amazing.”

The menu items range between $1 and $13 and comprise traditional favorites such as fajitas, burritos, enchiladas and quesadillas. The specialties include Carne Guisada, Chile Verde, Fiesta Nachos, Chicken Flautas, Chile Rojo and Asada. Street tacos are also available for $2.50. There is something to accommodate every budget. The kid’s menu includes tacos, quesadillas and flautas for less than $5.
