Donnett Wiley Nominated to Appraisal District Board
Young County commissioners unanimously approved a resolution on May 11 nominating Donnett Wiley to fill an unexpired term on the Young County Appraisal District board of directors.
Wiley, a Loving resident and co-owner of Don’s Butane and Olney Fuel & Supply with her husband, Precinct 4 Commissioner Jimmy Wiley, was nominated to replace longtime board member Mike Sipes, who resigned from the five-member appraisal district board.
During the brief discussion, County Judge Win Graham explained the action approved at the regular commissioners court meeting was only the first step in a countywide nomination and voting process required to fill the vacancy.
“Right now it’s the nomination process,” Graham said. “All the nominees are going to get sent out. We’re going to vote on which nominee we want.”
Commissioner Alan Craig made the motion approving Ms. Wiley’s nomination, with Commissioner Stacy Creswell seconding. The motion passed 4-0.
The Young County Appraisal District Board of Directors oversees the administrative and financial operations of the appraisal district under the Texas Property Tax Code.
The board’s responsibilities include hiring the chief appraiser, adopting the district’s annual budget, contracting for services, setting general operating policies, and appointing members of the Appraisal Review Board, subject to approval by the local administrative district judge.
The board does not determine individual property values, set appraisal methods or influence specific appraisals. Those duties fall to the chief appraiser and appraisal staff, who administer daily operations and conduct appraisals under state law and professional standards.
