Diner Reopens as Sassy Heifer
The diner reopened as the “Sassy Heifer” on Monday, Sept. 21. “Before it reopened we wanted to come in and remodel it, give it a face lift, and just make it different so that when people came back they knew that it was a different atmosphere,” said Tatum Wiley. Wiley stated that she wants customers to know that it is not just a family diner feel, but that they want outsiders to come in as well.
“We don’t want it to just be Olney people eating here, but a place where travelers coming through can stop by and eat here and feel that it is very welcoming here and that it is an overall nice restaurant,” Wiley added.
The menu is homestyle cooking but very big portions. Tatum adds that the menu is more simple now than it was before the shutdown and they now also have a special everyday for the people that eat at the restaurant regularly, so that people that can try something new everyday.
The Sassy Heifer is open seven days a week, with it being open from 8 a.m-2 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thursdays and Fridays it is open from 8 a.m-2 p.m. and 5 p.m-9 p.m. Saturdays hours are 6 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5 p.m-9 p.m., with Sundays rounding out the weekend with hours from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Wiley said that the meals at night are different than that of lunch, with evening meals being more of a dinner type meal rather than just a lunch special.
“It is very family oriented, even our employees all work together as a family, everyone gets along and helps each other out,” Tatum said. It is joint ownership between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law. Tatum Wiley is running the everyday operations, while Donnett is the silent partner. Tatum also has the Sassy Heifer boutique that is connected to the restaurant. It is a women’s clothing store, with accessories and gifts and different gift options around the holidays as well--there are also gift options for men as well. They also do offers on gift cards. The hours for the boutique are similar to that of the restaurant, the boutique opens around 11 a.m every day.
