David Spiller, Republican
Republican David Spiller is seeking re-election to the Texas House District 68, drawing on his record as an incumbent and emphasizing conservative priorities he says align with the largely rural district he represents.
Rep. Spiller, who lives in Jacksboro, was first elected to the Texas House in a 2021 special election after former Rep. Drew Springer moved to the Texas Senate.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law. Before entering the Legislature, Rep. Spiller built a career as an attorney and businessman, with professional experience in oil and gas, bonding, and abstract services.
He has also served as Jacksboro city attorney and as general counsel for the Jack County Hospital District, roles he frequently cites as grounding him in local government and rural health care issues. In Austin, Rep. Spiller has positioned himself as a staunch conservative focused on limited government, private property rights, and business-friendly policies.
He has supported legislation aimed at reducing regulations, opposing tax increases, and promoting economic growth, particularly in energy and agriculture— two pillars of the District 68 economy.
Rep. Spiller has also aligned himself with Republican leadership on border security, law enforcement support, and Second Amendment rights.
Rep. Spiller often emphasizes constituent service and experience navigating the legislative process, arguing that seniority and relationships in the Capitol matter for rural districts competing for attention and funding. He has said his familiarity with state agencies allows him to advocate effectively for local governments, schools, and hospitals, and that progress in improving rural infrastructure requires balancing local needs with fiscal restraint and statewide priorities.
Rep. Spiller presents himself as a steady, experienced hand, asking voters to extend his tenure and continue a conservative approach to representing District 68 in the Texas House.
