Dale Lovett Receives Congressional Commendation
Dale Lovett, chairman of the board of Olney Hamilton Hospital, was honored Feb. 24 with a congressional commendation recognizing his decades of service to Olney and his leadership of the 117-year-old rural hospital.
The award was presented at the Olney Heritage Museum before members of the Olney Chamber of Commerce, hospital board directors and community supporters.
The commendation was initiated by U.S. Rep. Roger Williams after two recent visits to Olney. During those visits, Rep. Williams met with Mr. Lovett to discuss the financial pressures facing rural hospitals, including rising operating costs and low insurance reimbursements.
Impressed by Hamilton Hospital’s longevity as the oldest continuously operating rural hospital in Texas — and by Mr. Lovett’s role in guiding it — Rep. Williams chose to formally recognize him.
Rep. Williams’ area representative, Melanie Berry, delivered a U.S. flag that had flown over the Capitol in Washington, D.C. The flag was preserved in a glass-andwood display case alongside a certificate of appreciation.
Young County Judge Win Graham spoke about Lovett’s lifelong commitment to the community.
Born and raised in Olney, Mr. Lovett graduated from Olney High School and Baylor University. He spent more than 30 years in public education, teaching in Graham and Olney before retiring in 2022.
“Dale Lovett has shown a lifelong commitment to his hometown,” Judge Graham said, noting his devotion to education, health care and public service.
Mr. Lovett joined the hospital board in 2005 and now serves as chairman. During his tenure, the hospital has expanded services with the addition of the Olney Family Clinic, Archer Family Clinic and the Wellness & Rehabilitation Center. A new hospital facility is expected to come online later this year.
Mr. Lovett continues a family tradition of service. His father, the late Dr. R.E. Lovett, practiced medicine in Olney for decades and served on the hospital board.
