Dads, Daughters Dance to Rehab Olney Civic Center
Keep Olney Beautiful hosted one of the most popular new events of the spring fundraising season, the Father Daughter Dance, on Saturday at the Olney Civic Center in a bid to raise money for the aging public building.
The Feb. 21 event raised funds with the help of volunteers and served up Chic-a-Fil-A for dinner, Photo Bombs capturing fun photos and DJ Rad Dad playing all the hits on the dance floor.
The Olney Civic Center was packed with excited young ladies. Proud dads danced and shuffled their way into their daughters’ hearts and created memories that will be looked back on fondly in years to come.
KOB President Luke Leonard called the event a success and thanked the community for helping create the pastel wonderland.
“It was a great turnout,” he said. “We had a lot of help from Brazos, which provided bottled water and the Olney Junior Altruistic who made desserts. DJ Rad Dad and Photo Bombs were a big hit.”
He also thanked ACE Hardware, Chris and Megan Kamp, Jill Turner and Kristy Simmons for helping with decorations.
Mr. Leonard said the funds would go toward the estimated $40,000-50,000 needed to revamp the Civic Center with new paint, flooring and lighting.
KOB chose the Civic Center project to provide a community event space large enough for public and private happenings, such as the Olney Chamber Banquet, birthday parties or quinceañeras, he said.
“It’s a good time for a refresh,” he said.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the fundraising for the Olney Civic Center refresh can contact Mr. Leonard at Archer & Gunn Mercantile during business hours or send checks to KOB at PO Box 501, Olney, Texas 76374
